Working in Binh Dinh has been a challenge this week: almost all the buildings – including houses, schools and clinics – have collapsed, and the damage is quite extensive.
As the team and I work our way through the rubble, we are bringing feed for the animals, and offering veterinary care to all those animals that have survived.
Morbid as it sounds, we also need to focus on decontaminating the shelters, because flooding brings with it serious concerns about disease – via infections carried in sewage, carcasses, and in the water itself – spreading even as the flood waters recede.
MARD has been kind enough to help us organise transport that can take us deeper into the rural areas so that we can reach any animals trapped there. However, this does mean that our access to communications systems is quite limited, so you might not hear from us too often!
